The rise of Hailey Bieber's Rhode Skin
You love Rhode Skin, and you're not alone. Data shows it's one of the most talked about brands online, and the pop-up stores over the summer showed how much demand there is for an in-person Rhode experience. What has made the company SO successful in just 2 years and what happens to it next? Can the success last for many years to come, and what does that look like? We explore these questions in this episode of The Devil Wears Data using research, analysis, sources, and of course...data!

Why inclusivity helped Abercrombie but not Victoria's Secret
Просмотров 93 тыс.Месяц назад
Abercrombie's stock price is doing amazingly, but Victoria's Secret stock price has plummeted over the past few years. The two brands have so much in common they were popular among teens in the 2000s, they were both once owned by the same parent company, they both marketed sex appeal and a narrow standard of beauty, and they were both cancelled in the 2010s. Abercrombie was selling you a lifestyle. Victoria's secret sold you an image as an aspiration. 😊 If you try and show them to be the same thing the cognitive dissonance wears off and everybody finds it distasteful. And then the sales drop off because there is no such thing as a perfection lifestyle. In considering that the lingerie they sold was less about functionality and more about sexuality and desirability to men the notion that an extremely niche thing like super overweight bbw backfired cataclysmically.

    I am a customer of Rhode and can attest to the quality of their products. I consistently get compliments on my skin and people always ask if I’ve just gotten a facial. The cleanser leaves my skin so soft without making it feel dry & tight afterwards. The glazing milk is so hydrating and so is the glazing fluid. The barrier restore cream is amazing and locking it all in while protecting my skin from the city air. The lip treatments (both the scented clear ones and the non scented lip tints) always leave my lips hydrated and full looking. (I haven’t experienced the little grains in mine that people seem to complain about online) I live in Ireland and the shipping from the Rhode U.S. warehouse is so fast (i ordered something on a Sunday evening and received it by Friday morning. I’ve ordered from stores based in Ireland where I live and they’ve taken longer to get my packages to me. Plus I don’t need to pay any customs as Rhode takes care of that for you) The blushes are so cute, the color options are great and a little goes a long way. They are great for adding a little color to your face but still maintaining that skin like finish.

    Stock price is not a direct indication of the success of the company. Not in a short periode of time at least, and 2 years since IPO is too short to pin everything on this single move.

    • @thedevilwearsdata
      @thedevilwearsdata 10 дней назад

      @@notme943 stock price is reflective of the financial health of a company and future projection, and VS wasn’t doing well with its rebrand, which reflected in the company’s financials. The company is rebranding back to its old ways to turn things around, which is enough to prompt the question of why they need to do that when a company like Abercrombie doesn’t. And I did not say the stock price is a direct reflection of this single move, this is just one angle of a larger story. There are other ways to analyze the company, which other channels have done

    • @thedevilwearsdata
      @thedevilwearsdata 11 дней назад

      @@mangosteen80 this is a great question. I hesitated to put an example of a disruptive innovator for beauty because there’s so much variability in the definition. The closest you can come to it though is Fenty’s shade range. Prior to that, you had to be a really rich person of color to get specialized makeup for yourself. Fenty came in and changed the game, offering a range of shades at a low cost to everyone. It also changed the way other brands view shade ranges, and forever changed the standard that people hold beauty brands to.

    They invest a lot in micro influencers which is clever, they give a lot of free stuff on their pop up store hence the really long lines, they’re really heavy on the ads (even on FB) and they keep their stocks low so it’s sells out faster. I’ve only ever heard most people talk about the lip tints + the labia phone case despite them being a skincare brand? I’ve never met someone irl who uses Rhode but I’ve noticed the people online who do tend to be a certain group of teenagers and influencers, I’m a bit uncertain if it would do well outside of the US. Also I noticed their site visits skyrocketed by a lot after her pregnancy announcement, I was one of those people who forgot this brand existed until 🙋🏻‍♀️ I think the success of the brand depends a lot on the new image her PR team crafted for her or else it could end up like Kylie Cosmetics

Dylan Mulvaney openly mocks girls (not women because he calls his pretend life girlhood) and it's no different than cyber bullying and disingenuous misrepresentation with the intent to destroy the respectability of girls. I haven’t finished the video, but I feel like Victoria’s Secret kind of gave up on the “fantasy” when it came to inclusivity which was the whole point. Like you can still have sexy fantastical it girl angels and have them be black or plus sized etc lmao. Like it felt like there was this lack of creativity in vs where they weren’t up to the challenge of making more people the sexy fantasy because the leadership didn’t see it. But like I’ve seen plenty of boudoir photographers make literally ANYONE AND EVERYONE look gorgeous and sexy and fantastical. It’s like Victoria’s Secret truly thought that inclusivity meant that things had to be boring and dumpy, rather than keeping with the original vibe of fantasy but just expanding it and making it so more types of people could aspire to be the fantasy it girl angel with the products. Like if you can’t make a woman with a soft body, a belly pooch, and naturally big boobs an angelic ideal, that’s a serious lack of creativity. If you can’t figure out how to make a dark skinned black woman with natural hair an angelic ideal, wtf are you doing??? Diversity doesn’t mean frumpy, it means diverse angels who are all sexy in different ways. Like there are so many ways to make all kind of different people an angelic fantasy.
